Welcome to American MRI! We understand that patients may have questions or concerns before their visit. Our goal is to ensure you feel safe, comfortable, and well-prepared for your appointment. Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about your visit and our services.
Preparing for Your Visit
- What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring the following:
- Your insurance card and Valid ID.
- Your doctor’s order or prescription for the MRI.
- Payment method for any co-pays or out-of-pocket expenses (Visa, MasterCard, cash, or checks).
- How should I dress?
Scrubs will be provided to all patients for use during their exams. So please come in clothing that is easy for you to change in our changing rooms. Your will receive a call from our staff prior to your appointment explaining our policies regarding things like implants, piercings, tattoos, hearing aids, etc.
- Can I take medications before my MRI?
It is fine to take your daily physician prescribed medicine. If your doctor prescribed sedatives, please take them as directed. Be sure to arrange transportation to and from the facility if sedatives are used.
What to Expect During Your MRI
- Does an MRI hurt or use radiation?
No! MRI is a painless procedure that uses harmless radio waves and magnetic fields to produce images. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI does not involve radiation and is considered extremely safe.
- Is an MRI noisy?
MRI machines make humming and thumping sounds during the scan. These sounds are normal and indicate the machine is operating. To make the experience more comfortable, we offer music during the exam.
- How long does an MRI take?
You should expect your entire appointment to take approximately 45 minutes, with your time in the MRI machine being approximately 30 minutes

We accept most major insurance providers and will handle third-party billing on your behalf. Our team will work with your insurance company to determine pre-certification requirements and out-of-pocket costs.
